Anita Baker is being sued by a house-painting company which claims the soul legend owes more than 15,000 dollars.
Ray A Smith Painting And Decorating claims in a lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court, Michigan, that the Grammy award-winning singer had gone back on promises to pay for work at her home in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
Work included painting in her son's bedroom, replacing a rotten door sill, and removing water-damaged plaster in her living room.
Neither Anita nor her attorney immediately returned calls by The Detroit News seeking comment.
Court records indicate Anita faces several financial problems including liens for 465,733 dollars in unpaid federal taxes, 15,952 dollars in unpaid state taxes and 3,470 dollars owed to a window company.
Anita plans to release her seventh album, 21st Century Love, in November.
