The One Direction boys are preparing to take to the stage in Sheffield tonight for the final date in their world tour this evening ahead of their ‘extended hiatus’.

However, a cutting expose in The Sun has revealed that the possibly permanent split could be a result of a feud between Harry Styles and his bandmate Louis Tomlinson.

The paper suggested that the relationship between the singers has deteriorated throughout the past number of years and the tension between the pair has escalated as the One The Road Again tour draws to a close tonight.

“Everyone involved in the band is well aware of the animosity between them. It's been central to everything else that came next with the band because there was suddenly a massive divide,” the insider told the paper.

The article published on Saturday revealed that Louis has burned many bridges with producers and music industry, according to a Sony Insider.

“Frankly, Louis is a little s*** who's managed to annoy a lot of people over the last couple of years. He's made some ridiculous decisions, like refusing to let 1D perform at the Brit Awards because they wanted more time off.”

Fans fear that the band’s break might be more permanent than is being suggested with Harry’s eyes set on a solo career.

While many believe it could be the end for the group, Louis has insisted that it is indeed just a short break.

"We fully intend to come back," he told ITV News.

"We absolutely love this. We had a little sit down before and we decided that we wanted a break.

"We've had a very intense couple of years so we're just going to have a little bit of breathing time and spend that with our families.

"I don't think anyone could keep this pace up forever so I think it's the most healthy and constructive thing for all of us."

One Direction are preparing to release their fifth studio album Made in the AM on November 13 and will appear on Good Morning America on November 17.

Rumours are also circulating that the band could take to the stage at next year’s Superbowl during the half time show.
