Music: Tim Robbins ***

Anybody who caught Tim Robbins playing Dublin's Grand Canal Square in 2008 as part of Hal Willner's sea shanties night will know that he has musical chops, unlike most Hollywood types who fancy unburdening their song routine on us. Ahem, stand up Jared Leto.
This debut offers a pleasant ramble through the backwoods of what the PR bumpf (accurately) describes as "rousing, raggle-taggle gypsy Americana and story-telling songs".
There's no doubt about it: Robbins can hold a tune and his vocals are expressive. The songs are perfectly acceptable in recorded form, yet one imagines that they will be more potent in a live setting. See for yourself when Robbins et al kick off their European tour in Whelan's, Dublin, on Sunday night.
