Music: Shuffle by Mundy ***

Anybody expecting new material from the Birr troubadour will be disappointed.

This is an album of covers in which Mundy stays very much within his comfort zone.

His heroes -- Dylan, Waits and Mark Linkous -- are tackled, although he is to be applauded for choosing lesser-known tracks.

Gemma Hayes provides accompaniment on a handful of songs and Joe Chester assists with a sensitive production.

The covers are faithfully done -- Mundy isn't one for radically re-inventing another's song -- but there's much to be charmed by, not least a pop-rock version of Warren Zevon's Reconsider Me (with Hayes sharing lead vocals) and a spectral take on John Prine's Angel From Montgomery.

Butcher Boy author Patrick McCabe, incidentally, has written the liner notes.
