This 40th anniversary edition of Bitches Brew is a timely reminder that while not being a populist record, Davis's 1970 masterpiece is certainly one of the most influential, joining the dots between jazz and rock and subsequently influencing a range of musicians including Primal Scream, David Holmes and My Bloody Valentine, to mention just a few.

This bumper package features oodles of extras including a DVD of a full live concert and all sorts of multimedia goodies, so it's definitely a great gift idea for the jazz buff in your life. The crucial thing about Bitches Brew is that it really shouldn't just be the preserve of the buffs, as anyone who is into challenging music will be able to get lost in its loose, raw grooves.
