There seems to be no stopping the Twilight phenomenon at present, with the books and films doing huge trade.

The next movie instalment is Eclipse and it will be in cinemas at the end of this month. In the meantime, this excellent soundtrack will whet appetites for vampire fans, but also those keen for a winning compilation of never-before-heard songs from some of the best acts plying their trade right now.

Unlike most soundtracks, this is not lazily cobbled together, but each track has been specially written for the film. Consequently, we find Beck and Bat for Lashes duetting -- brilliantly -- while Vampire Weekend's contribution, Jonathan Low, is a match for anything on their fine second album, Contra.

It's a hugely eclectic collection with Metric sharing space with Muse and Cee-Lo Green (of Gnarls Barkley fame) alongside The Dead Weather.

Elsewhere, Australian singer and sometime Zero 7 collaborator Sia delivers a slice of gorgeous melodrama in My Love, while Florence and the Machine continues her fine run of form with the moody Heavy in your Arms.

This is the benchmark by which soundtracks should be judged this year.
