Music: All You Need is Now by Duran Duran * * *

Duran Duran came of age with their high-energy, escapist songs during the last great recession. Can their so-called 'yacht-pop' lift the gloom this time, some 30 years later? All You Need is Now makes a decent stab at it.
The guyliner remains intact and so does the quartet's ability to deliver the sort of anthemic, unabashed pop that has long been their stock in trade.
Sure, a good chunk of this 13th album is Duran Duran by numbers, and there are some ill-fitting orchestral flights of fancy, yet at least half a dozen tracks have the ability to hermetically seal themselves inside your brain.
And the songs have been given a contemporary sheen by the master of superficial pop himself, Mark Ronson.
There are guest appearances from Kelis and Scissor Sisters' Ana Matronic, but there's no fear of Simon Le Bon and friends being over-shadowed.
From the hook-laden, fast tempo Being Followed to the outrageously catchy (and truly ridiculous) Too Bad You're Too Beautiful, this has guilty pleasure written all over it.
