Zach Galifianakis has joked that fans are paid to scream for him at movie premieres.

The Hangover actor admitted it can be "embarrassing" when people shout out for him when he walks up red carpets.

"I think these people are paid to scream. They get three bucks an hour, they don't even know who I am!" he joked.

Zach, 40, confessed being a hot property in Tinseltown is a little "odd", but added: "I'm kind of old so I can kind of deal with it. If I were those Twilight kids it would be really confusing because then you start believing the hype. I'm too old to believe the hype."

The actor's latest project is It's Kind Of A Funny Story, in which he plays a patient at a mental health clinic.

Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival, Zach revealed he is more than happy to be cast in quirky roles.

"I don't think anyone is interested in watching me be in a romantic leading man thing, I'm just fortunate to be working - if that's what they need me to do, I'll do it," he said.
