Zac Efron has revealed why he turned down Footloose.
The High School Musical star was in talks to play the lead role of rebellious teenager Ren McCormack in the remake, originally played by Kevin Bacon, but soon pulled out.
"All the things I loved about Footloose I couldn't find in the project, they just weren't there - I couldn't see myself doing it," he told Details.
Zac - who next appears in drama Charlie St Cloud - said that calling then-director Kenny Ortega, whom he previously worked with in the High School Musical films, to tell him that he was going to pass on Footloose was "literally the hardest phone call I've ever made".
Newcomer Kenny Wormald will now play Ren in the new Footloose, which will be helmed by Craig Brewer, and expected for release in 2011.
