Reese Witherspoon is in talks to take a producer role on The Engagements.
The film will be based on the romantic novel of the same name, to be published in June.
Variety said it was not yet known whether the adaptation of the book by J Courtney Sullivan would also star the Walk The Line and Legally Blonde actress.
The novel connects five very different relationships through the story of a diamond engagement ring from the 1930s to the present.
Variety said that Reese, who is set to appear this year opposite Colin Firth in crime drama Devil's Knot and in Paul Feig film Wish List, was keen to produce popular book adaptations.
