Kate Winslet is in talks to star in new teen movie franchise Divergent

Kate Winslet looks set to star in eagerly anticipated new movie Divergent.

The Oscar-winning British actress is currently in talks about taking on a role in the film, which is the first in a trilogy that is seen as a possible successor to the Twilight and Hunger Games franchises.

Variety reports that it isn't known which part Kate, 37, is being lined up for.

The film is based on a young adult novel by Veronica Roth which involves "teen-on-teen violence in a futuristic setting", where society is divided into factions based on human traits.

The Descendants actress Shailene Woodley has already bagged the female lead as 16-year-old Beatrice Prior, who leaves her group to join a rival faction.

The hunt is still on for her male co-star. Earlier this month it was revealed that Magic Mike star Alex Pettyfer, X-Men: First Class's Lucas Till and War Horse's Jeremy Irvine will be screen tested for the role.

Divergent will be directed by Neil Burger.
