Will Smith is tipped to star in Hurricane Katrina tale American Can.
The movie has been in development at the actor's Overbrook company for some time, and it seems that things are now moving forward with Will set to take the lead role of John Keller, reported Deadline.
Keller, a former Marine, helped save stranded people during Katrina, using a boat to transport them to the American Can apartment building and kept them safe until they could be rescued.
Ed Zwick is said to be in line to direct the movie.
It has been a busy few weeks for Will, as he has been lining up new projects.
As well as American Can he is in talks to join the cast of heist thriller Focus, replacing original leading man Ben Affleck, who left the project at the end of last year because of scheduling conflicts.
The star is also rumoured to be keen on a role in thriller The Accountant, which follows a government accountant who doubles as an assassin.
