Wiig keeps quiet over Bridesmaids 2
Kristen Wiig isn't entertaining the idea of a Bridesmaids sequel just yet.
The female-led comedy - which stars Kristen, who also co-wrote the script, with Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph - has already received rave reviews from critics, but the funnywoman doesn't want to think of a possible follow-up.
"I don't know yet. The press has been talking about it much more than others," she said.
Ellen DeGeneres, who has already said she would love a part in the second outing, would be welcomed into the gang, Kristen revealed.
"I've heard she wants to be in it. That would be amazing. Are you kidding?" she added.
Given the lack of female-friendly comedy roles in Hollywood, Kristen and her writing colleague Annie Mumolo would be forgiven for wanting to make a statement in creating a female-based story, but Kristen said that wasn't the point.
"When we were given the opportunity to write the movie, it was important to us to have a lot of female roles because we know so many funny women," she explained.
"It wasn't a big statement, like we had to get our voice heard. We didn't really think of it that way. We just sat down and wrote characters and situations we thought would be fun to shoot."
