Joss Whedon has said that if he took on another Shakespeare adaptation he'd love it to be Hamlet.

The director made upcoming film Much Ado About Nothing in just 12 days off while making Avengers Assemble, and told Digital Spy which of the Bard's plays he'd like to tackle next.

He said: "Hamlet. It's not like I'm original. That's one of the problems, I think about it for so long that by the time I get around to doing it the guy I want for Hamlet is playing Lear.

"I don't have anyone in mind. It's too close to me that role, so it's very tough to think. Everybody has an aspect so you think, 'Oh, I could do it with him, I could do it with him, I could do it with him'.

"But when you're filming something it has to feel definitive."

Much Ado About Nothing, a modern retelling of the Shakespeare tale, is released in cinemas on June 14.
