Based on the bestselling biography ‘Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption’ by Laura Hillenbrand, the script has been penned by Oscar-winning duo the Coen brothers.
Zamperini competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics before fighting in the Second World War. In 1943, his plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean.
British actor Jack O'Connell, who starred as James Cook in Channel 4 series Skins, will play the lead role of Zamperini.
Zamperini managed to stay alive on a life raft with fellow soldiers Phil and Mac for over 28 days. The trio endured both shark and air attacks.
Domhnall Gleeson will play Phil while American actor Finn Wittrock, who came to attention on US soap All My Sons, will play Mac.
When Zamperini was finally washed ashore, he was thrown in a Japanese POW camp where he was tortured and held for two years.
The trailer closes with a motto from Zampherini himself: "Don’t give up, don’t give in, there’s always an answer to everything."
