The reviews for Batman v Superman are in - and the critics didn't hold back.
The superhero blockbuster has been hammered by critics, and it looks like those scathing reviews have started to take a toll on star Ben Affleck.
Affleck plays Batman in the film, alongside British actor Henry Cavill. In a viral video interview, the co-stars were asked about critics “mixed response” to the film.
As Cavill begins to answer the question, the camera zooms in to capture the creeping sadness on Affleck’s face.
“What is really going to matter, I believe, is what the audience says,” Cavill told Yahoo! Movies in the original clip.
“Because they're the ones who are buying tickets, they're the ones who want to see more of this kind of story or not and so the audience's voice is the loudest and after this weekend, the audience will, at least partly, have spoken.”
By the end of the clip, Affleck looks heart-broken, offering just one muted contribution to the conversation: “I agree."
YouTube user Sabconth re-cut the clip to feature Simon and Garfunkel's tear-jerking song The Sound of Silence, which starts playing in the background as the camera focuses on Affleck's devastated face.
The clip quickly went viral, amassing over 6m views, and resulting in the Internet's new favourite meme:#SadBenAffleck.
Although the film faced extremely negative reviews from critics – one called it “a crime against comic book fans”, while another asked, “why is it so terrible?” – it took home $27.7m on its opening night, and looks set to make up a whopping $180m this weekend, according to early estimates from Variety.
