The Ted star, who gets to share screen time alongside shape-shifting giant robots in Michael Bay's fourth instalment of the action franchise, admitted their excitement about the film rubbed off on him. The director gave Mark's four kids cameo appearances in the movie.

"My kids, obviously, are everything to me. And this was the only time they've ever wanted to be in a movie," he told Empire.

The 42-year-old actor plays single dad and struggling inventor Cade Yeager, with Nicola Peltz as his screen daughter Tessa. Jack Reynor portrays Tessa's racing car boyfriend, whom Cade has to deal with.

It is the first Transformers film without actor Shia LaBeouf, who starred in the previous three films.

"What's interesting also is the story of this movie. I've got an about-to-be 10-year-old daughter so I'm going to be dealing with those things sooner rather than later," he added.

Mark has high hopes for the film, having come face-to-face with some of his co-stars.

"The Dinobots are just incredible. The way they come to life, the way they move, the things they are capable of. I'm not someone who gets easily over-excited about things, at least not these days, but I have to say that they are absolutely awesome."

Transformers: Age Of Extinction opens in cinemas on July 10.
