Mark Wahlberg has admitted that he feared Will Ferrell would be boring and grumpy in real life.

The Oscar-nominated Departed star worried that comedian Will would be hard to work with in their new comedy cop movie The Other Guy.

"I was concerned because comedic actors are often the polar opposite of how they appear on screen. They're dark and moody, and I was worried about going in with someone who takes themselves extremely ... seriously," Mark admitted to FHM.

"But Will is just like he is on screen, funny, cool, relaxed, very approachable, a family guy. I'm a bit self-conscious. I grew up in a tough neighbourhood - throughout my career I wanted approval from my peers back home and respect from guys in general."

Mark grew up in a rough area of Boston and served time in jail.

Speaking about the moment he decided to turn his life around, the Boogie Nights star revealed: "It was when I woke up and realised that I'd hurt somebody who didn't deserve it. They were innocent and I felt pretty f****d up by that. But then you have to face the consequences and be able to survive each day. So for me it was that day that I woke up and then every day after.

"Jail is hard; I like my freedom too much. But I've changed a lot. I just spend time with my family doing boring kind of stuff, playing golf. I don't worry what people back home might think. I'm past that. "
