Mark Wahlberg could be starring as the Six Million Dollar Man, according to reports.
The Transformers: Age Of Extinction star is tipped to play astronaut Steve Austin, whose body is rebuilt as a cyborg following a traumatic injury from an aircraft crash, in the film remake of the 1970s sci-fi TV series, said The Tracking Board.
The 43-year-old could also reunite with his Lone Survivor director Peter Berg, who is attached to produce and perhaps direct, while Harvey Weinstein is also attached to produce.
The Six Million Dollar Man film has been years in development, after Kevin Smith wrote a draft for the screenplay in the mid-90s. Jim Carrey was linked to star in a comic take from writer-director Todd Phillips, while Leonardo DiCaprio was previously in talks to star in a film directed by Bryan Singer.
Richard Anderson, who portrayed OSI director Oscar Goldman in the show, said he was involved with plans for a film remake in 2006, but admitted the rights were in litigation between Miramax and Universal at the time.
Lee Majors played the astronaut in the TV series, which ran for five seasons from 1973 to 1978. The show spawned the spin-off, The Bionic Woman, which was rebooted for a short-lived series in 2007 starring Michelle Ryan.
Mark, who plays single dad and inventor Cade Yeager in Michael Bay's fourth Transformers film, will next star in crime thrillers Mojave and The Gambler. He will also reprise his role as teddy bear owner John Bennett in Seth MacFarlane's Ted 2.
