An unknown actor will play the lead in the remake of 80s hit movie Footloose - a role previously linked to Zac Efron and Chace Crawford.
Kenny Wormald, a 25-year-old dancer who appeared in the MTV series Dancelife, has won the Ren McCormack role made famous by Kevin Bacon, after a worldwide casting search.
Efron was favoured by Kenny Ortega, the High School Musical director originally lined up for Footloose, who wanted a "younger feel".
Gossip Girl star Chace was then lined up for the role but he later dropped out of the running.
New director Craig Brewer wants the remake to be as edgy as the original cult hit. "I saw Footloose in my hometown theatre when I was 13 years old and it rocked my world," he has said.
Wormald, who toured with Justin Timberlake and has appeared in music videos for artists like Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, will appear alongside Dennis Quaid and Julianne Hough.
