Turgoose: Meadows is like an uncle

Thomas Turgoose has revealed how Shane Meadows is like an uncle to him.
The young actor lost his mother to lung cancer while filming 2005's This Is England, and director Shane and the rest of the cast rallied around him.
"He's like Uncle Shane really. He's one of them people where you know if you need anything, give him a ring and he'll help as much as he can," Thomas revealed.
"He's not your boss on set, he's like your best mate and he kind of lets you have your own freedom, listens to what you think. He's just one of those blokes who's an absolute pleasure to be around. You love being in his company."
Shane said filming the follow-up to This Is England, called This Is England '86, was like working with his family.
He said: "I've made a number of films now and you do make friends on films, but it's very rare that you sort of almost become a family.
"Normally you sort of get like that, don't see each other for a bit and you lose touch with people. But on this, I think something about Thommo and what happened to him in his life afterwards with his mum passing away, somehow glued us all together in a way that we kind of carried on being friends and there was a bond there that was massively strong."
:: This Is England '86 begins on Channel 4/HD on Tuesday, September 7 at 10pm.
