Tom Hardy has admitted he got "really fat" making the movie Bronson.

The Inception star played notorious criminal and boxer Charles Bronson in the biopic and had to gain two-and-a-half stone for the role, so he enjoyed gorging on chocolate and pizza.

Tom told Shortlist magazine: "I was a mess after Bronson. I got really fat. I was a real road crash."

He added: "Bronson was fun. For Bronson I just ate chocolate and pizza, lifted Pnut [his 16-stone former US marine personal trainer] up and down the stairs, played Xbox, shaved my head and grew a moustache."

But for his new martial arts film Warrior, the 34-year-old put on 28lb of muscle after committing to a strict diet and exercise regime.

Tom said: "Pnut had the problem of getting the rust off me. By the time I went to Pittsburgh to film Warrior I had two hours of boxing, two hours of muay thai, two hours of jiu jitsu, two hours of choreography and two hours of weight lifting a day, every day for eight weeks.

"I don't know how people do that every day."

:: Warrior is in cinemas now.
