Tim Burton is rumoured to be directing a dark retelling of the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty.
The Nightmare Before Christmas director may be bringing Maleficent to the big screen, according to movie blog Aintitcool.com, a twist on Disney's Sleeping Beauty told from the point of view of wicked Dark Fairy Maleficent.
In the cartoon, based on the Grimm Brothers' fairytale, Maleficent curses young Princess Aurora to death when she touches a spinning wheel's spindle before the sun sets on her 16th birthday.
However, her three fairy godmothers change the curse so that she will fall asleep for 100 years.
Burton, who began his career in Disney animation, has a great love for the gothic style so the rumours already have the film world buzzing.
