Kristen Stewart has apparently been offered the role of Kei in Akira.
The Twilight star would play the medium and love interest for Kaneda, which would reunite her with On The Road co-star Garrett Hedlund, in the big-screen remake of the manga, reported Twitchfilm.com.
Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter are said to have received offers to play the The Colonel and Lady Miyako respectively, with Keira Knightley also contacted for a possible role, although further details are not known.
We Need To Talk About Kevin star Ezra Miller and Tetro's Alden Ehrenreich are among those testing for the co-star role of Tetsuo in the film, which has been written by Steve Kloves and will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.
Filming is expected to start in early 2012.
Kristen - who is reprising her famous role as Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part One - will next be seen in Walter Salles' adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On The Road, before starring as Snow White in Rupert Sanders' Snow White And The Huntsman with Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.
