Stevens excited about Museum role

Dan Stevens will play Sir Lancelot in Night At The Museum 3

Dan Stevens has revealed that he signed up to Night At The Museum 3 so his daughter could see him on screen.

The 31-year-old actor, who previously played Matthew Crawley in ITV's period drama Downton Abbey, is to portray Arthurian knight Sir Lancelot in the upcoming film, which also stars funnymen Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Robin Williams.

Dan admitted he agreed to the role immediately, telling Collider: " I'm a huge fan of those movies. I love the concept. I love the humour. I'm a huge fan of Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Robin Williams and Ricky Gervais.

"It's an amazing group of actors who are comedic heroes of mine, all in one movie and all doing something that my daughter is going to be able to watch."

He added: "And I'm playing a very, very fun role. It wasn't a difficult decision. It's a huge honour to be stepping up with those guys. It's gonna be a lot of fun. I'm really, really looking forward to it."

Dan, who starred in WikiLeaks drama The Fifth Estate and romantic drama Summer In February, is also set to work with his childhood hero Adam Sandler in The Cobbler. Dustin Hoffman and Steve Buscemi also star in the film.

"It's a very interesting combination with Adam. It's an interesting experiment, that one. It could be really neat. It's a very intriguing script," he said.

"I had a great time on it. It was amazing to work with Adam Sandler, who I've grown up admiring. I used to listen to his early radio show, when I was a teenager. That was quite extraordinary. And it's got an amazing cast, with Steve Buscemi and Dustin Hoffman. It's a really good group of guys, and (director) Tom McCarthy was brilliant."
