Hit spy show Spooks is being adapted for the big screen, it has been revealed.

The movie version - titled Spooks: The Greater Good - will begin production in early 2014, according to Screen Daily.

Peter Firth is set to reprise his role as head of counter-terrorism Harry Pearce and additional cast members are "currently being locked in".

The film, to be directed by original series director Bharat Nalluri, sees Harry blamed when terrorist Adam Qasim escapes from MI5 custody. Harry then disappears and his protege Will Crombie is tasked with finding out what happened.

The BBC series ran for 10 series from 2002 to 2011 and scooped several accolades including a Bafta for best drama series and Royal Television Society Awards.
