Steven Spielberg's youngest daughter Destry inspired him to make the War Horse film, he has revealed.
The 15-year-old is a keen equestrian, and her love of horses encouraged the Oscar-winning filmmaker to adapt Michael Morpurgo's best-selling novel for the big screen.
"It's one of the reasons because she's a wonderful rider. We've been living with horses for years and it qualified me to direct the movie and she was my first inspiration," he told Entertainment Tonight at the film's New York premiere.
Destry added: "When I was little, I told him to make a movie of horses and he promised me he would. I'm pretty happy and really proud."
The movie, which opens in UK cinemas on January 13 2012, stars Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch and David Thewlis.
