Spectre, directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, has gone on to gross £6.66 million (10.1m US dollars) in the first four weeks since it was released on October 26.

The record was previously held by James Cameron's Avatar, which grossed £6.55 million in 2009 at the UK Imax box office.

Spectre has beaten Avatar only if inflation is not taken into account, however.

When comparing the figures for both films on a like-for-like basis, Avatar's Imax box office is £7.91 million: £1.25 million more than Spectre.
