Snow White a dream for Collins
Lily Collins is "beyond excited" about starring in Tarsem Singh's Snow White, saying it's a childhood dream come true.
The 22-year-old actress, daughter of legendary musician Phil, is to play the titular role opposite Julia Roberts as the evil queen.
"When I got the phone call I was screaming and crying - it's a childhood dream come true to be working with Tarsem, who is the definition of a visionary mastermind genius," she said.
"He's basically Tarsem-ing the story because he'll do whatever he feels is creative and crazy. To work with Julia Roberts as the evil queen and be the victim of her wrath is very exciting. She's never played an evil character before. It's going to be an epic experience," she added.
Lily, who appeared in Priest and The Blind Side, teased that Tarsem's contemporary remake will be much darker than the Disney version.
"We're doing it from the Brother's Grimm version of it so it's a lot darker," she said.
"Snow White becomes a fighter in this version of the story - she takes action and has a lot more feistiness and gumption in her than maybe the story everyone knows as a young kid."
The actress was a big fan of the Disney take on the fairytale.
"I think my parents were probably wishing I'd turn it off because I'd watched it so much. I knew all the words, everything," she recalled.
