Sylvester Stallone may not be directing The Expendables sequel, it has been reported.
The action man - who appeared in the star-studded blockbuster and worked behind the cameras as a writer, producer and director - had been expected to return to direct. But the actor has been meeting with directors to tackle the eagerly awaited follow-up, a source told LA Times' 24 Frames blog.
A spokeswoman for Millennium declined to comment.
The sequel's script has already been penned by Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys) and David Agosto - a departure from the original writing duo of Dave Callaham and Sly.
Sylvester, who began thinking about the follow-up even before the release of The Expendables last summer, wants Bruce Willis to return as "a super villain" in the second instalment.
The Expendables, which also starred Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham and Jet Li, was a box office hit in the US and the UK upon its release.
