Sheridan Smith is worried what her parents are going to think about her new role in a film about the invention of the vibrator.

The Gavin And Stacey star is to appear alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hugh Dancy, Jonathan Pryce and Rupert Everett in Hysteria, which is based on the true story of a Victorian doctor who aimed to cure hysteria in women and ended up inventing the vibrator.

Sheridan told The Daily Mirror: "I'm so nervous and have no idea quite how I'm going to play it.

"But more than anything, I am dreading my poor mum and dad having to sit through it."

The 29-year-old actress plays a former prostitute paid by Dr Granville to test out his new device. She will have to shoot a scene in which she has an orgasm for three-and-a-half minutes.

She has reportedly been told to try and out do Meg Ryan's famous orgasm faking scene in 1989 comedy When Harry Met Sally.

The film is currently shooting on location in Luxembourg.
