Seth: Cancer pal helped me win wife

Seth Rogen has joked that his friend's battle with cancer may have helped him woo his wife.

The Knocked Up star - who co-wrote new comedy 50/50 with cancer survivor pal Will Reiser - met now-wife Lauren Miller at a party just a few month's after Will's diagnosis.

"I'm not going to say I used his illness... but it didn't hurt," Seth quipped.

But the funnyman insisted he wasn't as opportunistic as Kyle, his character in the film.

"I would never have lied to a girl to try and get laid, which this character does. Maybe that's why I never got laid," he said.

Seth, best known for roles in comedies such as Pineapple Express and Superbad, kept Will entertained while he was fighting the disease.

"I thought he probably wanted to be cheered up rather than talk about how miserable he was all day, so we would joke around," he explained.

"When you do comedy for a living, it's inherent, it's how your brain hears things. Someone will tell me a movie idea, like a guy getting hit by a car and having his leg cut off, and I go, 'that sounds hilarious'. Then they say, 'Oh... it's not funny at all'."

:: 50/50 is out in cinemas now.
