Arnold Schwarzenegger is revving up for a big-screen return, with a lead role in Last Stand.

The Terminator star had previously put his movie comeback on hold to focus on his personal issues, following the breakdown of his marriage to Maria Shriver, but it looks like he could start filming Kim Ji-Woon's Western crime saga within months.

"It's an old-fashioned Western specifically designed for a 63-year-old broken-down guy with a moral decision whether Arnold decides to stand up for his town. We always needed an iconic figure for it," a studio insider told Deadline.

Despite the allegations surrounding Arnie's private life, film bosses reckon he could still be a star.

"I can tell you from The Expendables it was electrifying when Arnold came on. He is still a big piece of news," the source added.

Arnie - who had a cameo appearance in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables - would take the lead role as a small-town sheriff trying to stop a recently freed drug-cartel leader in Korean filmmaker Kim's English language debut.

Filming for Last Stand is scheduled to begin in September.
