Ryan not interested in Lantern role

Ryan Reynolds would only reprise his Green Lantern role with the right director and script

Ryan Reynolds has admitted he has "little interest" in reprising his role as comic book hero The Green Lantern.

The Canadian actor starred as the superhero in the 2011 movie adaptation, where he met his wife, co-star Blake Lively. There are rumours of a Justice League movie being in the pipeline, an ensemble film featuring superheroes including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel and the Green Lantern.

But Ryan told Empire magazine he hasn't been contacted about the project, and he is wary of making another comic book movie without a top director on board.

He said: "If you're gonna do comic book movies in that vein, you really have to get them right. I believe that Joss Whedon is the guy that just nails it and Christopher Nolan obviously nails it. So if they were gonna do it like that, it would be an interesting thing to do.

"It's just that... working on Green Lantern, I saw how difficult it is to make that concept palatable, and how confused it all can be when you don't really know exactly where you're going with it or you don't really know how to access that world properly - that world comic book fans have been accessing for decades and falling in love with.

"So at this point I have very little interest in joining that kind of world. But, you know, a great script and a good director can always turn that around."

But the Buried star would like to make more romantic comedies.

Ryan said: "Yeah. I'd like to go back to rom-coms. They're fun. The problem with romantic comedies is you know the ending by the poster. So they're not movies you can keep doing over and over again and expect satisfaction somehow.

"They're really about the pairing. You know, I had a dance partner named Sandra Bullock last time [in The Proposal] and that was as good as it could ever get. So if you're never going to do a rom-com again, it's after you work with her."
