Roth wants Sam for leading man
Tim Roth wants Sam Rockwell to star in his new film, based on social worker Marc Parent's book about his efforts to save children from their abusive parents.
The Reservoir Dogs star - who was abused as a child and has confronted the subject before in his 1999 directorial debut The War Zone - is adapting Marc's Turning Stones: My Days and Nights with Children at Risk for the big screen. Tim told The Hollywood Reporter he wants Moon star Sam to play Marc.
Tim said: "He was an incredible social worker - he saved tons of children from horrible situations.
"It's a really interesting story, and I couldn't get this film made [before], but it's the companion to The War Zone."
Marc moved to New York in his 20s to try and make it as an actor, and after being unsuccessful ended up joining an experimental social work unit at Emergency Children's Services. His book tells how his job called upon him to protect children from abusive parents, leading to the breaking up of families and parents being arrested.
Tim said he wants to shoot the film in digital.
He said: "It will give me real control of the atmosphere surrounding the children. I can do take after take, I don't have to worry about money or how much [film] stock I've got, or about the guy who takes the film to the lab in the middle of the night having a crash because he's out of beer."
