Robert De Niro is in talks to star in ensemble drama New Year's Eve, the follow-up to Valentine's Day.
Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank and Ashton Kutcher are also in negotiations to take on lead roles, said The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, once again directed by Garry Marshall, will tell intertwining stories of a group of New Yorkers as they navigate their way through romance over the course of New Year's Eve, with Robert playing a bitter dying man in a hospital while Michelle could be a frustrated executive secretary who decides to take on her unfulfilled resolutions.
Hilary is expected to portray a producer of the famed Times Square New Year's Eve show, and Ashton will be a guy who hates New Year's Eve.
Glee actress Lea Michele and Abigail Breslin are already attached to the production, which is eyeing a mid-December shoot in New York.
Garry has always had the idea of a sequel, having said: "It seems to be a good idea - my Valentine's Day was kind of a salute to LA, New Year may be a salute to New York that particular day. When everybody watches that ball come down on New Year's Eve, you can make a lot of good stories in that."
