The actress plays Volumnia, the mother of the title character, in Ralph Fiennes' modern-day adaptation of the Shakespeare play.

Since the film's world premiere in Berlin it has been tipped for success during awards season.

Vanessa said she respected the Oscars "like anybody" but that she was not paying attention to early predictions, adding: "I have to tell you I'm not interested in buzz at all."

The actress said she was a "lucky lady" to appear in the film and heaped praise on Ralph, who took to the director's chair for the first time with Coriolanus and who also plays the tragic anti-hero.

She said: "I can't find words which are sufficient enough to praise him. He's a very wonderful, very deep, very human person. He really cares about what he's doing. He cares about what everyone else is doing, he pays attention, he gives care and thought and he's a wonderful director."

Joining her on the red carpet at London's Leicester Square were co-stars Brian Cox and Jon Snow.

Jon who plays a television anchor man in the film, credited Ralph for teasing out an actorly performance.

He said: "I have to pay tribute to the director Ralph Fiennes who managed to conjure some kind of actor out of somebody who's never acted in his life and thought he was just coming here to read the news but ended up acting reading the news, which was fantastic, I really enjoyed it."
