Rachel Weisz is to play Jackie Kennedy in a biopic directed by her fiance Darren Aronofsky.
Jackie, which follows the events of the days following President Kennedy's assassination, will also be produced by Darren and his producing partner Scott Franklin and their Protozoa Pictures film company, Entertainment Weekly reveals.
Steven Spielberg had been rumoured to be producing Jackie as a TV film, but while he is not involved in the project, his agency CAA has reportedly put together the current package which is now being offered to major movie studios.
Jackie was written by Noah Oppenheim, head of development at television production company Reveille, over a period of nights and weekends.
It catalogues the four days between Kennedy's assassination and his burial, and shows the iconic first lady "at both her most vulnerable and her most graceful".
Darren and Rachel have been together since 2002 and have a three-year-old son, Henry. Darren last directed Rachel in 2006 sci-fi love story The Fountain, with Hugh Jackman, which received mixed reviews.
