Quinto to play Franco's onscreen ex
Zachary Quinto and Emma Roberts are to play James Franco's on-screen lovers in new drama Michael.
The film is based on the true story of Michael Glatze, who was co-founder of magazine Young Gay America and a former advocate for gay rights before becoming a pastor and denouncing homosexuality.
Variety reported that James will star as Michael, Zachary will play his former boyfriend and Emma will play his girlfriend.
Justin Kelly, who is set to direct the project, said: "This isn't just a story about an 'ex-gay'. It's actually a very relatable story about the power of belief and the desire to belong."
The script for Michael is based on My Ex-Gay Friend, a New York Times Magazine article by Benoit Denizet-Lewis, about the Christian minister from Wyoming.
Benoit said: "I'm excited that everyone involved in this project is intent on telling a story that captures the full breadth of Michael's unusual life, from the inspiring gay leader I knew when I was young to the Christian pastor he is today."
Gus van Sant is the executive producer and James is also among the producers.
Chris Zylka from The Leftovers is also attached to the film as another past love interest.
