Pryce enjoying Hysteria of new film
Jonathan Pryce has confessed he is loving the reaction he gets when he tells people he is starring in a film about the invention of the vibrator.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star is currently filming Hysteria, with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hugh Dancy and Rupert Everett, based on the true story of a Victorian doctor who aimed to cure hysteria in women and ended up inventing the vibrator.
Jonathan, who plays the doctor father of Maggie's character said: "It's a film called Hysteria which is about the invention of the vibrator - I love people's reactions when I say that."
He added: "It's set in 1880 and it's based on fact. There are humorous elements, for sure, but ultimately it's a film about female emancipation and liberation."
The film, written by Stephen and Jonah Lisa Dyer, is being directed by Tanya Wexle, and is currently filming in London and Luxembourg.
Maggie told The Guardian earlier this year: "I play a firecracker whose father is a doctor who is in the business of curing hysterical women. He cures them basically by getting them off and that actually happened. I end up having a sort of unexpected love affair with this guy who works for him, and who by mistake invents the vibrator."
