Harry Potter, Darth Vader, Nicolas Cage and Doctor Who's Matt Smith all picked up honours at Spike TV's annual Scream Awards.
Heroes and villains from the worlds of horror, fantasy and science-fiction shared the stage, which resembled a psychedelic circus in an amphitheatre built on the Universal Studios backlot.
Describing the awards as "wonderful", best sci-fi actor winner Matt Smith seemed more keen to talk about True Blood winning three gongs - including best horror actor for Alexander Skarsgard and best male breakout performance for newcomer Joe Manganiello - than his own win.
"I love True Blood. That is the show I love the most because I think that is really incredible," he said.
Daniel Radcliffe accepted the prize via video link from New York for the Harry Potter movies, which took the night's top prize of Ultimate Scream, and which presenter Chloe Moretz described as "the most awesome, most rocking thing that the universe has ever seen."
His co-star Ralph Fiennes, who played Lord Voldemort, also appeared by video to accept an award for favourite villain.
Star Wars creator George Lucas - who offered a peek at his latest film Red Tails and announced the 2012 release for the first 3D Star Wars film - presented Darth Vader with his Ultimate Villain prize.
Other winners included Robert Downey Jr as top hero, Nicolas Cage named favourite maverick, Bradley Cooper, JJ Abrams, Darren Aronofsky and actor-comedian Paul Reubens aka Pee-wee Herman, who won the Visionary award.
Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt accepted the gong for The Dark Knight Rises, named the most anticipated movie.
The awards will air on Spike TV on October 18.
