Paul Rudd will play Ant-Man in the new movie adaptation, it has been confirmed.
The Anchorman star was known to be a frontrunner to play the superhero in Edgar Wright's movie and Marvel has now revealed he officially has the part.
Paul had been up against Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was also a contender for the role in the comic book film .
However, Marvel stressed in a statement on Marvel.com that Paul, 44, was always their first choice, "continuing the studio's desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes".
Marvel's Kevin Feige said: "When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star.
"We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we'd found the right guy. We couldn't be more excited for our audiences to see what he's going to do to bring Ant-Man to life."
Ant-Man is the alter ego of Henry Pym, a scientific genius who invented a substance that allowed him to change his size.
Marvel has moved forward the release date for Ant-Man to July 31, 2015.
