Paul Bettany's unholy language
Paul Bettany has confessed he used unholy language on the set of new film Priest 3D when he was hurt during a stunt scene.
The Da Vinci Code star plays a vampire-slaying priest in the action horror film, opposite Star Trek's Karl Urban as Black Hat, and admitted his reaction wasn't very priest-like when he was hurt during a fight scene.
Paul said: "I didn't hurt myself Karl Urban hurt me, that's what happened. There's a scene where I'm hanging off the train and he has to stamp on my fist so they built a steel plate that wouldn't be seen by the camera so he could really stomp on it.
"But he was wearing contact lenses so he missed the steel plate and stamped on my hand and I screamed. I was supposed to scream, but what I actually ended up screaming wasn't necessarily the sort of thing that a priest might scream."
Paul will next be seen in Margin Call, a thriller set at an investment bank during a 24-hour period in the early stages of the financial crisis, co-starring Kevin Spacey, Zachary Quinto and Stanley Tucci and released later this year.
Paul revealed: "We shot in 17 days which was crazy, just crazy and I'm really pleased with the result. I'm surprised by the result because we just rushed through it. There were no takes, there was just 'you do it once and then we move on'. It was really refreshing and really focuses the mind."
Asked what it was like to move away from religious roles, Paul, who played a monk in The Da Vinci Code, and an angel in Legion, said: "I'm done with religious roles - unless they make Priest 2, I'm done!"
