The Oscar-winning actress was a surprise guest at the Warren Easton Charter High School Class of 2014 graduation in New Orleans on Monday. Sandra adopted the school after it was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and has donated thousands of dollars to help rebuild it and provide equipment. The 49-year-old decided to share some words of wisdom with the 200 members who were progressing to university, but not before sharing an anecdote about her own time at school.

“I was trying to remember my graduation and, oddly, I couldn't remember anything,” she said to the crowd, according to People magazine. “I remembered how good I looked and then I went back and looked at pictures and I really didn't look so good. I didn't remember anything, because I was so worried about the future."

Anxiety was a key part of The Blind Side star’s speech. She encouraged the students to keep focused on their dreams but not to be disappointed if things don’t always go to plan.

“Stop worrying so much. I don't remember any of the moments in my life where I worried,” she said. “Raise the bar higher. Nothing is a failure it's just not supposed to work out."

Sandra received a People’s Choice Award for her work with the school in 2010. The mother-of-one clearly feels passionate about education and so it was no surprise when her parting words to the pupils were to find what matters just as much to them.

“And last but not least go find your joy. It's what you're going to remember in the end,” she explained. “It's not the worry, it's not the what-ifs. It's the joy that stays with you. And I want to thank you for the joy that Warren Easton brings me every day."
