Christopher Nolan has officially come on board to direct Batman 3.
When asked by Empire if he would be helming the third instalment of the Caped Crusader franchise, the filmmaker behind Batman Begins and The Dark Knight replied: "It's becoming inevitable, I'll put it that way - I feel myself falling into it, I guess, and getting it all figured out and I'm pretty excited about what we're doing so..."
He concluded: "If I haven't announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I'm doing it. I think you can [assume] at this point, yes."
Michael Caine - who plays butler Alfred - has also spilled a few beans about the forthcoming film, which will see Christian Bale reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
He told the Chris Moyles Show that the film "will probably start in May next year" and revealed that Christopher and co-writer brother Jonathan are keeping tight-lipped about the lead villain.
Following Christopher's confirmation that he will not be bringing back the Joker, portrayed by the late Heath Ledger, speculation is rife that the Riddler - possibly played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt - would be Batman's main arch-nemesis.
