Little Women is being given the big screen treatment once again.

Sony Pictures is working on a new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's much-loved classic novel and has hired newcomer Olivia Milch to write the script, reported Variety.

So far it isn't known who might star in the film, which follows four sisters growing up in the US after the Civil War.

Several film versions of Little Women have been made, starring actresses such as Katharine Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor.

The most recent movie version was released in 1994, and starred Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst and Christian Bale.
