Eddie Murphy is to return as Beverly Hills Cop Axel Foley on the big screen.
The actor starred as detective Axel Foley in three films between 1984 and 1994 and recently reprised the role in a TV spin-off pilot, focusing on Axel's son, played by Brandon T Jackson.
Now, following the success of Eddie's guest appearance in the pilot, Paramount Pictures has commissioned a new movie sequel, Deadline reported.
Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec - the script writing duo behind Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake - have been signed up to write the screenplay.
For undisclosed reasons, CBS decided not to commission a TV series from the pilot.
But Shawn Ryan, who co-produced the pilot with Eddie, tweeted earlier this month: "Good news for fans of franchise is that the pilot tested so well, it has caused Paramount to put another #BHC movie into development."
