Zoolander 2 movie review: 'Exactly as we feared - a lame, overcooked and astoundingly tiresome sequel'

I really, really wanted to like Zoolander No. 2. Alas, the long-awaited sequel to 2001’s Zoolander is exactly as we’d feared; a lame, overcooked and astoundingly tiresome follow-up to a film that, in retrospect, only had the one punchline to begin with (the world of high fashion is beyond bananas — go figure).
True, there’s a bit of fun to be had with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson reprising their roles as dim-witted goofballs and supermodel BFFs Derek Zoolander and Hansel, but the plot — a ludicrous, Da Vinci Code-like set-up involving Interpol, Sting and Derek’s estranged son — is surprisingly short on laughs and over-reliant on relentless celebrity cameos.
That said, the Justin Bieber assassination scene did receive a hearty round of applause at the screening I attended.
