He has just been cast in an iconic comic book role by Marvel and Sony but who is Tom Holland?

The 19 year old British actor will portray Peter Parker (who is back in high school) in the next instalment in the $4bn Spider-Man franchise which is slated for releases in July 2017.

... if you've seen Tsunami disaster drama The Impossible, also starring Naomi Watts.  Tom played her eldest son Lucas.

(3) He's best known for musical theatre

He played the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre, London.

He will play a young Thomas Nickerson opposite Chris Hemsworth, Brendan Gleeson, and Cillian Murphy in Ron Howard's film about a whaling ship in the 1820s which was preyed on by a sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days.

He was born in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, to Nicola Elizabeth (Frost), a photographer, and Dominic Holland, a comedian and author. His paternal grandparents were from the Isle of Man and Ireland, respectively.
