WATCH: Stunning first images from painted film of Vincent van Gogh's life
Take a look at the first images from a unique painted film about Vincent van Gogh which stars some of Ireland’s top actors.
Saoirse Ronan, Chris O’Dowd and Aidan Turner joined the cast of a lovingly made movie about the famous Dutch artist.
Some 124 painters from around the world spent five years painting 64,500 frames over a thousand canvases to tell the virtuoso’s story.
The British-made flick, Loving Vincent, cost €5 million to make and tells the story of the tortured life and mysterious death of Van Gogh.
It is the brainchild of Oscar-winning director Hugh Welchman and his wife, painter Dorota Kobiela.
Scenes were shot against a green-screen, with the cast chosen because of their resemblance to real-life figures that Van Gogh painted.
The footage was then projected frame-by-frame on to an artist’s board, painted over in the style of Van Gogh and then photographed. The film’s trailer has already amassed 150 million views on YouTube.
